The snow situation in DC is getting really insane and ugly. Massive snow walls are along street sides. Roads become icy that create perfectly natural bumpers. You cannot walk with normal shoes but even with snow shoes, you might still fall down. Trains are running underground but you have to wait for 30 minutes to get a train, and it might stop running earlier, 11PM instead of 3AM. My car is dumped under snow somewhere that I don’t dare to think of getting it out. And you can imagine that thousands of people are waiting at the airports and train stations trying to get out of town.I usually buy foods in some stores outside the downtown area. There are more choices and prices are definitely cheaper than the ones in downtown. But during snow, I have to shop in stores close to my place. Last Friday, my boss told me to wait until after snow falling to buy food so I could avoid waiting in line. I went to the store downstairs after work, at almost 7pm. At that time, snow had already been falling for 8 hrs. But long lines of people were still checking out and almost everything was gone. I planned to make some chicken curry but there was no more chicken. I was sick of eating beef in the last few days.
Yesterday, the weather man predicted that snow would be falling today, about another 12 inches. I went to that food store again; it was 4pm; and I saw the same situation – crowded shoppers and the store was nearly empty. But this time, I was lucky enough to catch some chicken for my curry.
Are people in DC insane? Why do they have to buy too much food every time it snows? Does snow turn them into monster eaters? I thought snow is just for a few days and the stores have to supply foods anyway. Stop buying too much. Give other skinny people like me a chance to eat.
